About The Rectory Kennel
Welcome to the web site of the Rectory Kennel, which was founded in 1960
when the Rev.
George
E. Sinkinson and his wife Jackie acquired their first bloodhound registered
as The
Chase's
Perizadah (call name--Beulah).
This was the fulfillment of a boyhood dream of Sink's, set in motion by
Jackie who had read
everything
she could find in print about bloodhounds. The scarcity of available material
made
this
a rather difficult thing to do. If she had not set things in motion,
the idea of owning a
bloodhound
might still have remained a boyhood dream and not the reality that it would
be for
the
next forty years and more.
This all started while the Sinkinsons were in their first parish in Massachusetts.
A few years
later,
they (and Beulah, of course) were called to another Episcopal parish in
San Francisco. It
was
there that the first three Rectory litters were whelped. We were
fortunate enough to still
retain
our summer home in Maine. This made it possible for Jackie to be
able to spend summers
in
Maine and the rest of the year in California.
This allowed her to indulge deeper into finding out what went into becoming
a breeder, owner
and
handler. She worked very hard at this and developed a coast-to-caost
friendship with many
"dog
people". She was rated among the top of the breeder/owner/handler
people.
The next move found The Rectory Kennel in the beautiful rural countryside
north of Baltimore.
Maryland
proved to be an excellent location for one hooked on breeding and showing
dogs...many
more shows within reach and closer proximity to other breeders and exhibitors.
During
the next decade and a half (and up to this writing) the kennel came into
greater
prominence.
To date, The Rectory has produced some 130 Champions, 13 Best of Breed
wins at the
Westminster
Kennel Club Show, some Group placings, 8 Best in Show winners, numerous
wins at
Specialties
and some 25 Hall of Fame awards.
While statistics might be a bit impressive, they were more important in
that they gave us some
measure
of assurance that The Rectory Kennel was making a contribution to
the betterment of
the
breed. That should be the goal and purpose of all bloodhound breeders.
The Rectory
Kennel
has kept quality in all its breeding and not simply quantity.
A large number of Rectory dogs appear in the pedigrees of many of today's
bloodhounds...names
such as Ruin, Curate, Limbo, Rebellion, Rebel Yell, Bishop, Reward, Moses
and
Lulu are among some of the notables. We feel that we have been blessed
with bloodhounds
who
not only have been fun to raise and live with, but have had great temperaments.
