Presence is what Ch. The Rectory's Curate was made of as we watched him and cheered him on throughout his career that was to place him as the top bloodhound in the United States.  Owned by Richard and Mitzi Hiett, his record of wins in the breed and in the groups was outstanding.  That record may be topped by another dog, but few will match his presence in the show ring, or the howl of victory when he won.

For many of us, the end of an era came when Curate died on November 13, 1972.  He was born on April 19, 1963...a member of the first litter of bloodhounds from The Rectory.
Owner-handled by Dick, Curate went on to finish at 14 months...to win 88 Best of Breeds, 17 Group I's, 17 Group II's, 9 Group III's, 13 Group IV's and two Best In Show triumphs.  He honored all bloodhounds by placing in the top ten hounds of the Phillip's System and as a sire of 24 champions, he was a top producer in 1970 and 1971.

Curate's ability to bay on cue, signaled by asking him, "where's your mommy?", landed him a starring role in Finian's Rainbow.  It was his personality that endeared him to all who knew him, and which made him such a salesman for our breed.
